Description
Atlatl weights, also known as bannerstones, birdstones, or boatstones, are typically made from stone, bone, or antler and are added to the shaft or incorporated into the distal end of the throwing board. Their primary function is to increase the energy stored in the flexible dart, tuning the atlatl’s flex relative to the dart’s spine, which can result in greater velocity and improved control during a throw. The weight affects how the dart springs from the throwing board, influencing both accuracy and distance, though the impact varies depending on the dart’s length, thickness, balance, and flexibility, as well as the thrower’s skill and strength.
