 Antler Baton Taylor Co. FL
3 1/2"   a5072
COMMENTS:  heavy and well preserved, cut marks visible all the way around where tine was removed, proximal end  shows rounding off and heavy use from percussion.blows. The area opposite the removed tang has been cut down and reduced a great deal.  The surfaces show hand polish from being used, likely for many years, as the wrinkles are smoothed and polished from being held to strike the stone during knapping.

Modified Deer Cannon Bone  Marion Co. FL
6 3/4"  $30  order   a5049
COMMENTS: This deer leg is scored lengthwise and broken in two to make bone pins.  The top and bottom pictures show the scoring goes  the total length of the distal end.  This piece is from a dig site near Ocala.

Bison Molar Bison bison late 1600s,  Merrick Co. NE
3 1/8"  $17 order f814
COMMENTS:  killed by the early Pawnee in Nebraska, recovered  from their middens.  Very large buffalo.

Bison Molar Bison bison late 1600s,  Merrick Co. NE
2 3/4"  $15 order f815
COMMENTS:  killed by the early Pawnee in Nebraska, recovered  from their middens.

Dimple Stone  Paleo onward   Citrus Co. FL
2 1/4" tall.  $125 order a4537
COMMENTS:    made from hard sandstone,  the patina has flaked in a couple of places, now has been stabilized.  Well developed dimple, good symmetry.

Antler Banner Weight  various time periods,  Dixie Co. FL
4 7/8" long  $450 order a4518
COMMENTS:  made from polished antler

Antler Banner Weight  various time periods,  Citrus Co. FL
4 1/2" long  $600 order a4700
COMMENTS:  some water erosion but no repair and complete.  This banner is unusual in that it has been  worked down thinner than its original thickness, with the hole area being the widest part.  For some reason the user wanted this banner to weigh less than the original antler blank.  There is much yet to be learned about stone and antler banner weights used in the US.

ANTLER KNIFE HANDLE  Taylor Co. FL SOLDa
3"   a4490
COMMENTS:  the picture does not show it well, but hole appears gouged for a flint stem to be inserted.

Owl Gorget   Woodland  Sumter Co. FL
order a4344  call for price
COMMENTS:  made of green steatite,  perhaps there were shell inlays in the deep eye sockets. Recently found on private land.  Extremely rare and unusual artifact, fine example of ancient American Indian art.  Beautifully detailed and skillfully crafted.  Rare opportunity to acquire a very fine investment piece.

Hafted Knife Plains Farming tradition (Upper Republican Culture)  Custer Co. Nebraska
81/2"  $3000 order a4699
COMMENTS:  Bison rib handle, thin stone chert blade, appx 9th-11th century.  This knife is from the Bob Philips collection, Lexington, NE, one of the largest in south central Nebraska. L-4 is the Ash Creek site, near Eddyville.   A small section of the bone handle the size of a fingernail has been repaired.  Hafted knives are extremely rare in the Great Plains.  I have been hunting since 1954 and have found only one.  This likely because the Indians probably used wood for handles, due to the fact that it is much easier to work, although not as durable.  This is without a doubt the finest hafted knife from the Great Plains that I have seen, and was one of Mr. Phillips' prize finds, it was held back by his family when the bulk of his collection was auctioned off years ago.

Incised Stone Pendant Plains Farming tradition (Mandan or Upper Missouri River Plains Culture) Central South Dakota
1 3/4"  $600 order a4698
COMMENTS:  most certainly a rattlesnake rattle motif, this is a unique steatite pendant from the Great Plains.  From the Bob Philips collection.  After reading Mr. Philips' field notes, I believe this came from the Missouri River area of Sully Co. South Dakota, found in a midden in the late 1960s, shortly before the newly built Oahe Dam flooded the river basin and destroyed the tremendous number of sites in the area.

Fish Hook  Taylor Co. FL
1 7/8"  $75 order a4895|
COMMENTS:    this hook broke where it was scored to tie the line on.  No repair nor restoration..

Fish Hook  Taylor Co. FL
2 1/16"  $525 order a4511
COMMENTS:  no repair, no glue, slight pitting, barb good, nice groove on top of shank, no damage.

Fish Hook  Taylor Co. FL
2 1/16"  $675 order a4236
COMMENTS:  bone slightly pitted but looks better in case.  Bone is solid.  Notch for attachment on proximal end, extremely nice  and well developed hook portion.  Method of manufacture is indicated by the hole drilled in distal end.  The yellow bone in the picture above (not included with hook) is made from bison scapula and found in Nebraska, and illustrates the method of manufacture.  This was evidently discarded as the holes were too big and the hook portion became too narrow to be practical.
