Paleo Enterprises

FOSSILS AND ARTIFACTS FROM
PALEO ENTERPRISES

ABOUT US

Paleo Enterprises was founded by my son Carlos in 1990 and was maintained by him until 1994 when I became the owner. Carlos is still involved, although in a less active role. I first began actively collecting artifacts and fossils in 1953, and my interest grew as I began learning to prepare fossils, restore artifacts and make fossil cast reproductions.  There is such an intense interest in fossils today that a competent preparator can keep as busy as he or she wants: there is simply more work to do than there are people to do it!

At Paleo Enterprises we do all our own work: we make the casts, we prepare the fossils and we even find a good percentage of them (although less and less, I admit). Carlos and I have been diving Florida's rivers, streams and springs since 1977 and we enjoy a fine personal and business relationship with a great many divers. Due to our long association, many give us first opportunity in acquiring their finds so we have access to a large variety of fossils. Another reason that we enjoy privileged acquisition opportunities  is because we have a reputation as an honest dealer who pays fair prices. Our inventory changes often and if you are looking for an item that you don't see listed, give us a call and we will try to locate it for you.

At Paleo Enterprises we support or are members of the Tampa Bay Fossil Club (past Treasurer and board member), the Kolomoki Society,  Tri State Archaeological Society, the Peach State Archaeological Society, the Florida Paleontological Society, Mid America Paleontology Society, Paleo Education Preserve, the Aucilla River Project, Pony Express (charter member), and Society for the Documentation of Prehistoric America.  We helped found the Sunshine State Archaeological Society, a branch of the Central States Archaeological Society, and Jim was the first President, and Carlos the first Treasurer. Carlos is the current Editor of the Sunshine State chapter and Jim Regional Editor for the national society.  In 2005 Carlos was elected to the Board of Directors of the prestigious AACA.

We have donated significant fossils to the University of Florida and the Smithsonian Institution and our casts are on display in museums and colleges in New York, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa, New Mexico and Illinois. We are regional consultants for the Gulf Coastal Section in the nationally known The Overstreet Indian Arrowheads: Identification and Price Guide, fifth, sixth and seventh editions, and author of "Fossil Collecting in Florida's Rivers" Tampa Bay Fossil Chronicles, Vol. 9, Nos. 2-7, l995-96.

We want you the customer to be satisfied. Since a good deal of our business is from repeat sales, returning something is never a problem. A phone call will hold an item, and a system of payments can be worked out on high dollar items.

My dad used to say that if a man's word is no good, then the man isn't either. I believe that. We do business the old way.
